Alaska is mostly open country and as a result, has some pretty epic places to explore and ride a dirt bike or explore on a dual-sport.

It’s these areas that give it a fantastic reputation as simply heaven for the adventure motorcycle rider. And despite the epic scenery, there are also some MX clubs around the region for those who prefer closed-circuit motocross and enduro racing.

Whether you live in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks or Badger, there are spots that you’ve gotta explore. In this guide, Frontaer is going to let you in on some of the best-kept secrets. Let’s begin.

Best Alaska Dirt Bike Tracks

Even if the weather is a bit cold outside, you should get out there and see what others are missing! Simply get yourself a good jacket and start exploring the region on 2 wheels.

Better yet – pack a tent and make a weekend adventure with a group of friends. Lacking friends? There is a highly popular group on Facebook for others to find others who share the same passion.

Most dirt bike riders in Alaska ride in these areas:

1. Eureka Trails

With over 150 miles of dirt bike tracks to explore, Eureka Trails is the favorite destination of those in Alaska. Head for Eureka Lodge for the night for showers and hot food, especially as you’ll want to stay at least one night to see everything. The trail is hard packed yet it can get dusty and a little sandy too, depending on the season.

2. Permanente Trail

Take the Chickaloon Trail System where you’ll find the Kings River, Permanente and Young Creek Trails. They are interconnected and you’ll do best to unload your dirt bikes at the Permanente Trailhead just by the Kings River Bridge on Google Maps. Plenty of parking here and the place is open year-round, though you can’t go camping.

3. Red Rock Canyon Trail

Red Rock is great for the adventure rider and you’ll find it traversing the Rainbow Mountain region. It’s characterized by mountain roads and you’ll find the area starting from Richard Highway. Simply be on the look out for mile marker 214 which then takes you to a staging area where you can unload your dirt bike from the trailer.

4. Quartz Creek Trail

Quartz Creek is out in the White Mountains National Recreation Area and you’ll find the trail behind double-track and designed for 4×4’s but dirt bikes can certainly ride it. After all, this is a former mining trail. The area is rugged (as you would expect for the Alaskian wilderness) and you can ride here for free. Camping is provided at Mt. Pindle Campground.

5. Caribou Hills

Alaskan locals call this place ‘The Hills’ (and it has nothing to do with the movie of a similar title) though the ambience of the area does feel a little off. After all, this place is littered with old mining settlements. The best spot to unload your dirt bike would be the Clam Gulch Staging Area especially as you can pull straight off the highway into here. For overnight stays, head over to the All Seasons Campground which is just a few miles away with more than 50 sites on offer.

6. Knik Glacier Trail

For 22 miles of sand, mudle and some gravel, take yourself along Knik Glacier Trail. This will take you to seeing a large glacier with your dirt bike. Just imagine…very fewer other dirt biker riders can make such a claim! This spot gets crowded during public holidays and weekends, especially if the sun is shining…so be warned! Also avoid this area during the muddy months of Spring.

7. Bald Mountain Trail

Looking for the rough and tough? Then Bald Mountain is where it’s at. This is within the Anchorage Recreation Management Area and the Talkeetna Mountain Range. With 22 miles of rough dirt roads to conquer, you’ll want to see the top end of your gearbox but might be reluctant with those gnarly rocks in your path. In 1956 a B-29 crashed here and so there is a trail named in its honor with a memorial plaque placed by the wreckage.

Getting Started

It’s time to get out there even if the weather is a little on the cold side. Alakas just offers so much for us riders and it’s little wonder why so many snowbirds come from North American to explore this region. Take your pick at the trails and we’ll see you out there!

Whether you live in LItlte Rock, Jonesboro, Fort Smith or Conway, you’ve got some good dirt bike trails right on your door step.

Sure, they might not compare with some out of state options, but you can certainly get out there and twist that throttle hard without a 3-hour road trip. Some of these riding areas make the perfect spot to ride on a Saturday afternoon.

Best Dirt Bike Tracks Arkansas

Frontaer has done the research so you don’t need to. Just like you, we love heading out on the open trails and exploring the wilderness on 2 wheels. Instead of binge-watching yet another rider on YouTube, you could be seeing these places yourself and basking in the joy of a thumping 4-stroke. That’s the best way to live in our experience.

Fortunately, the State of Arkansas has allowed some select riding areas. They are found in National Forests mainly and you can even go camping there too.

So if you’re ready to get out there, here are the best dirt bike trails in Arkansas:

1. Byrd’s Adventure Centre Arkansas

Bring your dirt bike and even your RV! It’s not uncommon to find a toy hauler hooked up here and camping for a few days while exploring the surrounds. In fact, it’s not uncommon to find a plane either given there’s an airstrip here too! If you want to go paddling, there is also a great river system and canoe hire. Oh! And the dirt bike trails are epic with more than 30 miles of clearly marked tracks for all experience levels.

2. Hot Springs ORV Park

If you’re looking for something more challenging, then Hot Springs is the place to be. It’s certainly more rugged with some technical hill climbs which you’ll find 4×4’s attempting. When the day is done, then you can check into the full service campground with a great bathhouse for washing away all that sweat and dirt accumulated out there.

3. Macks Pines

Macks Pines is another private campground with riding areas around. RV’s dot the campgrounds on weekends so it’s wise to book early. The Illnois Bayou has miles and miles of unmarked trails and is located next door. While you’re there, check out Moccasin Gap Trails in Dover. This is within the National Forest and is also located right next door to Macks Pines. Certainly you’ll be well serviced with 3 great offroad trail systems to choose from.

4. Sandtown Ranch

Another great ranch is Sandtown. You’ll find 1,800 acres which are open for much of the year with the trails accommodating towards all skill levels. Further still, there is direct access to State and County land if you ever get bored. Camping is available here but again, book ahead.

5. Wilderness Rider Buffalo Ranch

With more than 3,000 acres of both single track and double track trails, it’s hard to pass on Wilderness Rider Buffalo Ranch. You’ll love the scenic vistas and waterfalls to explore, plus the hiking tracks when you’ve had enough of constant clutching in and out. Reserve a tent site ahead of time to avoid disappointment, especially around national and state holidays.

6. Wolf Pen Gap Trail Complex

We’ve left the best until last! Many riders from out of state love this spot which is in the Ouachita National Park. There are camp sites which are open for much of the year, except for hunting season. The tracks here are clearly marked and ATV’s love this spot as do us more sane 2-wheel fanatics.

Riding Today

There you have it! Some really good spots worth exploring behind the handlebars. Some of these are mainly for side-by-side vehicles and ATV’s so keep this in mind, as you will be sharing the tracks. This is certainly true of the Buckhorn OHV Trail System and Carter Offroad Park.

Iowa is spoiled with some really great OHV riding trails near Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City and Davenport worth riding.

These spots have been closed secrets for years by the local riding community. They would prefer that you didn’t know about these, but we’ve left the cat out of the bag!

Best Dirt Bike Tracks Iowa

You’d rather spend time behind the handlebars rather than researching the best places to explore on 2 wheels. That’s why we’ve done the research for you. Frontaer has created this epic resource for dirt bike and adventure motorcycle riders nationally.

Plenty of people pass through the state and totally miss out out some epic riding areas. Iowa offers so much with numers offroad vehicle parks just begging to be discovered.

Essentially, these are the best places to ride a dirt bike in Iowa:

1. Bluff Creek OHV Park

Head south-east from Des Moines and you’ll find Bluff Creek in Mahaska County. There are more than 20 miles of epic trails to ride here with rolling hills and heavily wooded trails as you would expect. This place is an abandoned strip coal mine and some reminants remain in the area if you’re into fossicking around for treasures.

2. Lakeview OHV Park

While not as big (150+ acres), Lakeview is worth the visit. It’s sometimes known as Coralville Lake ORV Area or some locals refer to this as Ely OHV Park and it’s open for much of the year. Here you’ll find several trails from sand to mud and everything in between. The fishing and camping here is excellent so don’t just bring your dirt bike.

3. Rathbun ATV & Dirt Bike Park

Found within Appanoose County is the Rathbun ATV Park. This is an abdandoned rock quarry and the trails surround the lake. It’s all terrain access so you’ll find ATV’s and 4×4 vehicles sharing these tracks.

4. River Valley OHV Park

Located right on the borner of Omaha City (Nebraska), you’ll find River Valley OHV Park. This is in Pottawattamie County and there are 350 acres to explore with looping trails in dense forest. Expect to remain in 2nd or 3rd gear for much of the trail and the area becomes very muddy early in the season.

5. Tama County OHV Park

A great spot to avoid the mud is Tama County OHV Park. Here are 300 acres of forest trails which are open to offroad vehicles. The best part? There is a kids track to help your children develop their skills in a controled and non-confrontational environment.

6. Gypsun City OHV Park (Iowa)

Funnily enough, Gypsun City OHV Park also has 300 acres for you to explore. It’s almost becoming a coincidence on this list, right? Yet they are planning to expand this to 1,400 acres of epic riding terrain soon so watch this space! In addition to enduro trails, you’ll find a well maintained MX track.

7. Riverview OHV Park

Not to be confused with River Valley above, Riverview is an alright dirt bike trail. There are only 180 acres so it’s good for a day-visit. There are some trails and 2 motocross tracks. You can camp here with your RV too.

Getting Started

There you have it! No excuses to get out there now if the sun is shining. And no excuses that you need to travel out of state to get some decent riding in. That said – some people do given that these trails are shorter in most instances and heavily wooded. If you want to open up the throttle in 5th gear then Utah and Nevada have the terrain that you’re looking for.

Most of Iowa’s riding areas are great for those on dual-sport adventures. Bring your big bore and the camping gear with panniers as you’ll find some great spots to camp overnight. Keep an eye out for the bears though which are occasionally seen as they have crossed state lines.

Heading out with your dirt bike and exploring the epic trails found near Milwaukee, Kenosha and Madison is fun!

Whether you like the challenging bog holes and hill climbs, or the more tame open country with some tight technical sections thrown in for good measure, you’ll certainly find some great spots around. Some are free and with others, you need to pay a nominal fee to enter.

Wisconsin’s Best Dirt Bike Tracks

Frontaer saves you a ton of research. When we started our dirt bike journey, it was hard to know where to actually go riding. Some sites were inaccurate and others required us to pay them a yearly fee to access all the spots. That didn’t feel right to us.

That’s why we’re here to help riders of all types. Whether you just got started yesterday or you’ve been riding for a while, allow our guide to help you find some great riding areas. We’ve figured out the best from the rest.

These essentially are Wisconsin’s best dirt bike trails:

1. Arkansaw Cycle Park

More-so popular with MX riders and professional competitors, the Arkansaw Cycle Park is an excellent choice if you want a well groomed train. There is an 8-mile enduro course if closed-circuit racing isn’t your thing, as well as a spot for kids with the PeeWee course. Various AMA events are held here and it’s best to call ahead before hauling your bike and gear.

2. Dyracuse Mound Motorcycle Recreation Area

Fancy 500+ acres of open area with clearly marked trails? Then you’ll love this spot. There is a supercross, motocross and PeeWee track too which keeps the kids happy. If that isn’t enough, get yourself into the mud bog hole and have fun winching yourself out!

3. Cedar Lake Arena

Love riding year-round but can’t handle the snow? Then Cedar Lake is actually an indoor motocross facility that’s open to dirt bikes. It’s in New Richmond, WI and it’s open almost everyday, though it’s best to call before heading in for a session.

4. Denmark Cycle Park

For a few days every week, the Denmark Cycle Park is open to enthusiasts behind the handlebars. Both ATV’s and dirt bikes are welcome here. Again, it’s best to call as they run some scheduled races on weekends.

5. Flambeau Trail System Wisconsin

Over in Fifield, you’ll find the Flambeau National Forest which has 70+ miles of trails which were previously logging roads and today make for a great adventure. The scenery is captivating which makes it ideal for dual-sport adventuring in the woods and a spot of stealth camping.

6. Harrison Hills Trail System

This place is massive and we recommend that you bring a reliable GPS to get around the Harrison Hills area. It’s surrounded by lush hardwood forest and the trails are very wide. These do connect to the Oneida Country trail system and there are 6 staging areas to choose from.

7. Motozone Wisconsin

Motozone is rated quite highly with many riders giving positive reviews. This is because they are fully setup to cater for riders with shower facilities on site plus a spot to wash down your dirt bike and even a dump spot for RVs. As for the riding, you’ll find dozens of tracks around.

8. Parrish Highlands ATV Trail System

Head into Northern Wisconsin and you’ll find the Parrish Highlands which is connected with the Harrison Hills Trail System. Dirt bikes are welcome and the terrain is quite hilly with trails surrounded by hardwood forests. This spot remains open late in the season.

9. Bentley Hills ATV Trail System

This riding spot is worth mentioning. Bentley Hills may be opened to dirt bike riders once again! Yet if you have an ATV bike then you can certainly explore this area openly. This place makes for a great spot to go camping.

10. Tri-County Trails

We’ve left one of the best until last! There aren’t that many spots which are open all year-round in Wisconsin for dirt bike riders, but luckily this one is. It’s a multi-use trail system over in Monroe consistenting of flat and hilly terrain which is hard-packed gravel for the most part. You’ll need to get a Cheese County Trail Sticker even if your motorcycle is registered. Best part? Campgrounds and restaurants can be access directly from the trail, making this spot ideal for adventure riders.

Exploring the Trails

There aint no more time to waste! You’ve got to get out there and explore the trails that the State has created, or have been setup by local enthusiasts. Better yet – rope some buddies together for a weekend of fun with a case of beer for good measure. There’s nothing better than stories around the campfire recalling the fun of the day.

Living life behind the handlebars certainly beats seeing it behind a screen. It’s time to get out there and start exploring!

Best Dirt Bike Tracks Utah

Some riders buy a dirt bike so it looks shiny in the garage. The more sane among us buy one to be ridden and get scratched through the occasional crash. We hope you’re in the later category.

Life is just too short to mess around and watch yet another dirt bike rider ripping it up on YouTube. To get professional like them takes hours and hours of practice, so get out there and find a spot!

Here are Utah’s best dirt bike tracks worth exploring:

1. Hook and Ladder OHV Trails

With more than 40 miles of marked and rated dirt bike trails at your disposal, you’ll be more than satisfied here. It’s out at La Sal in Utah with dry conditions which are open year-round. Aim for Spring or Fall as winter is too cold and summer is well….absolutely hot!

2. Yellowstone ATV Trail

Here is where you’ll find two very long trail loops which interconnect. They are well marked for grades and maintained during the year. This is within Ashley National Forest and you’ll find spots to camp and launch a boat at Moon Lake. Maybe not swim though as the water can be very very cold.

3. Ticaboo Trails Utah

Stay at Ticaboo Resort where you’ll get immediate access to hundreds of awesome trails to explore. You’ll probably need to stay 2 nights to see them all! And once you do, hire a boat or kayak to see the region by floating along. RV’s welcome here with a restaurant on site and cabins for those who prefer glamping.

4. Throttle 215 MX Park

Yes motocross riders, we haven’t forgotten you! MX tracks are plentiful across Utah with our favorite going towards Throttle 215 MX Park. With both a main track for the parents and a PeeWee track for the kids, the whole family will be well served. The track is very well maintained by the operators with the occasional competition being held here.

5. Casto Canyon Trail

There is plenty to discover at the Casto Canyon Trail. People haul their dirt bikes from all over Utah to check this one out given how epic the scenery is with plenty of red hoodoos and cliffs everywhere. You can’t camp here though there is a campsite a few miles down the road.

6. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

For those that love the super soft sand dunes, then this is for you. Full throttle and lean it back! When you’ve had enough of sand riding, whip out the sand board and ride your way down these dunes. You can ride at nighttime as well as camp here in one of the few camp sites, though facilities are almost non-existent.

7. Doc’s Beach

If you like the sandy stuff but don’t want to chase the big dunes at Coral Pink, then you’ll love Doc’s Beach which is popular with Utah residents as well as those out of state. There isn’t much else but sand, sand and more sand! You can camp here though the facilities are limited.

8. Dome Plateau Utah

When you’re done with the sandy tracks, then get along to Dome Plateau. This is more hard-packed with rocky outcrop sections and some soft stuff too, but nothing like a sandy beach. The views here are pretty epic and you’ll come across some large caves and old mining sites on your journey. Head to Dewey Bridge where you’ll find a small campground which operates on a first come, first served basis.

9. Knolls OHV Area

For the biggest dirt bike riding precinct in the state, it’s Knolls OHV Area that you’ll want to head to. Here is where you’ll get yourself into 36,000 acres of sand dunes, hills, trails and everything in between. It’s out at West Wendover and near the famous Bonneville Salt Flats and while it’s remote, it’s also popuar on weekends so don’t be surprised if you see others.

10. Mineral Fork Trail

Those living in Salt Lake City would’ve heard of this dirt bike track. It’s not much in length but makes for an easy trip from the city paired with some green lush vegetation as a good alternative to the desert landscape. This is within the Uinta National Forest with some single track available.

11. Paiute ATV Trail System

We’ve left one of the best spots until last! Imagine more than 2,000 interconnecting ATV Trails and you’ve got hte Paiute ATV Trail System. Some riders go for 20 or 30 trips here and still haven’t been on all the tracks yet! So much to explore and so little time, but one thing is for sure – you’ll never get sick of this.

12. Richard’s Hollow

Head up to the North-Eastern side of the state and you’ll find some great single track for your dirt bike. The Friendship and Spring Campgrounds provide direct track access which the Lodge Campground gives access to the nearby Steel Hollow Trail which is equally as good, if not better.

13. River House Ruins

Ever wanted to ride in the dry river bed? Well now you can! Through the River House Ruins, you simply follow the San Juan River. There is an old abandoned ranch here which gives a biit of a creepy vibe to the whole place. Sometimes you’ll feel like you’re being watched. No coincidence that we’ve put this as #13 on the list, right?!

14. Strawberry OHV Trail System

Less creep than River House Ruins? Check. Plenty of trails? Check. Camping? Check. Boat ramps and fishing? Check. At Strawberry OHV Trail System, you’ve got plenty to explore which makes for the perfect weekend getaway.

15. Sand Flats Recreation Area

Leaving of the best until last is the Sand Flats Recreation Area. This place is almost world famous and offers riders and explorers a lot of places to discover. Not only is the riding great here but so is the camping with 120 camp sites available across 2 seperate camp grounds. If you need to wash off all that smell then head along to the Mill Creek Canyon swimming hole.

Getting Started

There you have it! And you know what? There are numerous dirt bike tracks in Utah that we’ve missed. Those living in Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Provo and West Jordan will find some trails within miles of their CBD. How? Simply ask the local Facebook groups of keen riders who love to twist that throttle hard.
